Summer by the sea
To my surprise, I find that I am still missing Norfolk. We spend a week there most summers, in a caravan belonging to my out-laws, and, although I always love the time we spend there, I usually don't think about it once we leave. This was the first year where I really enjoyed the quiet and isolation of being a 2-3 mile walk from the nearest village/shop/pub/bus-stop... (Neither my partner or I drive. Where we live, it's not really neccessary).
Maybe it's because this was the first year where our youngest was able to do the required amount of walking without getting tired and upset, or maybe it's because I am getting better at being still, but I didn't want to leave.
Look at it. Isn't it beautiful? The light at dusk is breathtaking. Everything goes muted granite colours: soft blue-grey, pink, pale dusty-purple. At sunset, the sky away from the setting sun looks like a colourful bruise. And the sea is so clear that you can still see your feet and the pebbles underfoot when you're knee deep in it.
This photo for me says it all. Instead of the troubled, confused boy I am used to, I see someone who is totally at peace with himself and the world around him. THIS is what I want for him.

Ah, the sea, the sea, the sea . . .I know just what you mean. Maybe this boy would like The Wanderer one day . . .
Thank you Sharon, for taking the time to comment and for the reading suggestion.
There is something rather wonderful about the sight and sound of the sea.
This boy mainly reads manga at the moment (when I say read, he glances at the pages so rapidly I don't see how he takes it all in, but somehow he does)however he still likes to be read to sometimes, so we might read it together some time soon.
Norfolk, by the sea. I loved it so much I moved there 5 years ago.
Hiya Henry.
You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I hope to move to the Norfolk coast once the kids have finished school (and my partner's love affair with London cools off a little).
